I believe that by the grace of God, Alpha Omega can become an ideal society.
I will therefore, strive in every way to live up to the principles, ideals, and standards upon which it is founded. I believe in loyalty to God, loyalty to LeTourneau College, and loyalty to Alpha Omega. - I realize that one would be unable to be loyal to any cause, the policies and aims of which he does not know. Consequently, it is my duty to inform myself concerning the things for which the above stands. - I believe that I will be a better man as a result of my membership in Alpha Omega. Therefore in considering prospective members I will not look for perfection, rather, I will try to discover whether or not the environment and contact with men of high ideals will make him a better individual. - Believing that my society is greater than any of its members, I will strive to make it so high and so worthy that men will consider it an honor and a privilege to belong to it, and will strive to be admitted to it. I will not offer concessions to an individual to secure his affiliation, for making concessions makes the man more noteworthy than the society and hence only succeeds in lowering it in his estimation as well as mine. - I know that my personal conduct will reflect upon the reputation of my society; that the good or bad reputation is not the sum total of all the reputations of its members, but rather the reputation of each individual member. Therefore, I will ever conduct myself decently and discriminately so that my actions will bring credit rather than discredit to my society. - I believe that in any organized society individual rights and privileges must be subordinated to group rights, that in my society I possess the same rights and privileges and owe the same duties as my fellow members. Therefore, I shall at all times strive to respect the rights of my brothers. - I believe the laws and rules of my society are intended to regulate the actions of its members, one with another, and that without fidelity to those laws and rules I cannot be a worthy member to Alpha Omega. - I believe that the word "virtue" is an inclusive term, that it is not enough that I be merely passively virtuous, but that I must assume a positive stand on virtue's behalf - that I must crusade without pause against those things that tend to lower me in my own estimation. Therefore, I will stand aggressively in defense of honesty in all walks of life. Whenever I can I will move to oppress lawlessness and vice. - I believe that my society brothers are all men of good moral character, and I have faith in their honesty and integrity. - We urge as Paul urged Timothy, "O Timothy, guard what was been entrusted to you. Avoid the godless chatter and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge, for by professing some have missed as regards the faith." (I Timothy 6:20-21) |
